Bed and Breakfast (B&B) in Indre: Berrychone Chambres d'Hôtes

Berrychone is an established Chambres d'Hôtes/B&B, an old farmhouse built on the edge of Le Petit Vavre, a small hamlet of just twelve houses. Berrychone was originally the mairie of Le Petit Vavre over three hundred years ago. Indeed, when we were renovating the living-room, under several layers of wallpaper some as thin as cigarette paper, we found an old notice of a modification of a by-law dated 1816! Over the years it became a family farm and then was divided into two houses. In fact, one of the local women who was born in this house, still lives in the hamlet! In the mid 1900's it was converted back into one house and was used as a holiday home. We have now finished the renovation and have tried to keep as many of the original features as possible, including the oak fireplace and tomette floor in the living room, the
oak beams and tomette floor in the kitchen and a host of other features in the rest of our home. This makes our home an ideal chambres d'hôtes (bed & breakfast) and to make our guests really feel at home, we provide an "en-famille" atmosphere, in other words, during your stay with us you live as part of our family. We ask guests not to spend an evening in their room, we prefer you to join us in our living room for conversation, music or even TV! Tea and coffee are always "on tap", if you would like either please help yourself or if you ask really nicely one of us might make it for you!
Our house has central heating run by a wood burner. The house is heated 24/7. We are very warm in the winter, the bathroom is like a sauna with warm towels included. An absolute bonus for those who like home comforts. We also provide evening meals which are homemade. We buy our eggs from the local farm, our meat from the local butcher, and most of the vegetables come from our garden, all organic. All excess vegetables are bottled and the fruits are made into jams. The bread is from our local baker who is in Bazaiges only 1,5km from our house. In the summer we cycle to the bakery to get fresh bread and sweet breads for breakfast. We have a spacious enough garden where you can have your meals outside of an evening. Here you can enjoy peace and tranquility in a beautiful part of the Berry. Berrychone is located in the south of the Indre county situated in the Centre region of France, close to Argenton-Sur-Creuse, Chateauroux, Bazaiges, Eguzon, Gargilesse, Lac Chambon, Limoges and The Brenne Natural Park and next to the Creuse county. We are only 2h1/2 from Paris and 5h from Dover. The A 20 is a free motorway from Paris-Toulouse and passes by Orleans, Vierzon and the famous Le Mans 24 hr circuit. We are 1.5km off exit 19 on the A20 using the new straight through road. The Berry area is abounding with places of interests, leisures and hobbies with its medieval towns, castles, dams, man made lakes to visit, open air activities such as water sports, hiking, fishing, archery, up-sailing, cycling and horse riding just to name a few. There is something to suit everybody of all ages from the very old to the very young. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside, dales and rivers where nothing is rushed but everything is enjoyed in a most leisurely way. The winding roads, the cascades, the breath taking views and the never ending discoveries and leisures of the Berry makes it one the most enjoyable places to visit and stay.

The Bois Du Berry bedroom is so called because we have kept the original Oak floor. This room is large enough to fit not only a double bed, but two single beds as well if you require them. This room is airy but warm in the winter due to the central heating and cool in the summer courtesy of the ceiling fan. We have also managed to keep the original marble fireplace in here, but you will not need to light it! A relaxing nights sleep is assured here and after a hearty breakfast consisting of French bread, homemade jams, pain au raisin, pain au chocolate, orange juice, tea or coffee you will be ready to face the vigours of sight-seeing!

The Tomette Du Berry bedroom is a light and airy room but benefiting from central heating in the winter and a ceiling fan for the summer. You will awaken in the morning refreshed and looking forward to lovely French bread with a variety of homemade jams, croissants, pain au raisin or pain au chocolate with fresh orange juice, coffee or tea. You will leave us ready to face the day in good spirits and a full stomach.
